Buttie Pole Construction
The Buttie Pole is the latest project carried out by the society. The project builds into an easily portable multi-band dipole that covers 80m through to 2 m. The antenna uses wire jumpers and telescopic end pieces to alter its resonant length for each band. Also available was an optional tripod to mount the antenna on and a canvas bag to transport the antenna. 13 members began construction of the kits, supplied by Sandpiper Aerials, Which involved drilling the various elements of the antenna and winding the coils onto supplied formers. After some initial teething problems with construction and kit inconsistencies an excellent portable antenna began to emerge. During one evening one of the members supplied a pedestal drill to enable accurate drilling of the antenna elements and the coil formers. Winding the coils proved to be the most challenging aspect, but all members successfully completed the task after a little guidance.
